本書作者、高中生張一幟從小生活在加拿大。當他回到中國后,對中國的歷史文化產生了濃厚的興趣,與父母游遍中國,並將自己的見聞寫了下來,形成了一本有趣有趣的英文遊記。
本書分為五個主題:歷代都城、五嶽、四瀆、雄偉長城、京城春花,詳細描述了小作者曾經到過的長城關口、名山大川、歷史名城等以及他所了解到的有關歷史故事和文化知識,包含大量精美的圖片。從黃帝時期的傳說中的都城到清朝的北京,作者都一一進行了探訪,跟隨作者在古都中行走,讀者仿佛也看到了這些城市的前世今生。小作者還看到不同風格的寺廟中先人留下的信仰痕跡,在五嶽中仰望高山,看到儒道佛和諧的共存,沿著四瀆行走,感慨現今科技在河流兩岸留下的印跡。在北京的春天裡,小作者感受到時光的流逝,也更加珍惜美好的當下。
在小作者眼中,中國山川美麗壯觀、多姿多彩,中國文化博大精深、淵遠流長。小作者希望能盡自己的努力,將他眼中的中國描寫出來,讓全世界更多的人看見中國、了解中國、愛上中國。

張一幟 Zhang Yizhi was born in July, 2004. He currently studies at Tsinghua International School in Beijing. Growing up, Yizhi has received a bilingual education in Chinese and English. Since returning to China from Canada in 2013, he has been travelling with his family around China to visit natural wonders and historical sites. He compiled his trips into this travelogue, hoping to share what he learned about China's profound past to a wider audience. This book contains five parts: Ancient Capitals of China, the Five Mountains, the Four Rivers, the Twelve Passes of the Great Wall, and the Spring of Beijing. It aims to impress readers with China's scenery and landscapes as well as its history and culture.
