《南柯記（莎士比亞詩劇體全譯本）》嘗試在大致為莎士比亞五音步無韻體詩的結構內，完全保留原文中所有的細節，意象，比喻和典故，並在其中找到語意和情感契合，化用莎士比亞語句表達，由此在忠實源文意蘊和情感表達的基礎上，發揮譯者的文學想象和文字功力，結合人物性格、戲劇場景和敘事走向，向英語讀者傳達出湯顯祖時代的戲劇人物的思想和情感，以喚醒目標語讀者文化和審美意識，達到有效的文學理解和審美愉悅。在這部《南柯記》譯本中，譯者始終遵循這一翻譯策略，在譯文中致力達到此一目的。此外，文學作品除了主題、情節、人物、衝突等結構性重要因素外，離不開對人物、事件和情感細緻的描寫，離不開意象、修辭和典故等語言藝術手段的使用。對於這部中國典籍文學作品，譯者力求對上述因素做「重描」，即用譯入語最大限度地重現原文細節，語言修辭和典故，以便在讀者視界中產生飽滿的審美感受。
