《新時代跨學科英語閱讀.2》進一步深化閱讀主題，所選篇章涵蓋歷史變遷、階層差異、族裔文化、傳統與變革之爭、科學與人文等多個內容維度，涉及性別、教育、城鄉發展、技術倫理等社會焦點議題。每一主題中包含兩篇在文類風格、歷史時期、立場觀點等方面均有不同的選編，讓學生通過閱讀不同領域的經典篇目，從歷史的維度考量觀念的轉變、思想的衝突，以及文化之間的商酌與博弈。
教材還有機融入價值觀引導，如在「個體與社群」單元中，引導學生對比中西文化中對「群己關係」的論述，反思極端個人主義與盲目從眾心理，引導學生思考如何在群體中實現自我價值；在「城市與鄉村」單元中，以田園傳統為切入點探討城市化、人口流動、生態保護等社會經濟命題。這些內容的設置旨在強化學生的批判性思維，以及文化比較和價值判斷能力。
