本教材旨在培養學生的英語綜合應用能力、跨文化溝通能力以及文化傳播能力，使他們在未來的國際舞台上發好中國聲音、講好中國故事，能夠承擔起向世界宣傳推廣中國文化的責任。
本教材和以往同類教材相比，新增了介紹中國的政治制度與法律制度、中國歷史與地理等內容，首次以高度的道路自信、理論自信、制度自信介紹中國的政治制度與法律制度，以高度的文化自信介紹中國五千年燦爛輝煌的歷史和文化，這將會極大地提升和厚植學生的民族自豪感和家國情懷，為外語類課程的思政建設提供教材保障。除了政治與法律、歷史與地理主題外，本教材還設計了中國的哲學與宗教，中國的科技與體育，中國的語言、文字與教育，中國的文學與藝術，中國的餐飲文化等內容，涵蓋了中國文化的絕大多數主題。
本教材每個單元的課後練習通常設計為四個題型：第一部分是填空題，考查學生對中國文化知識點的記憶、識別能力；第二、第三部分是中國文化的術語和段落翻譯練習，旨在鍛煉學生的理解和應用能力；第四部分是思辨和討論題，需要學生進行分析、評價甚至是創造。這種循序漸進的練習設計也完全符合布魯姆(Benjamin Bloom)的「認知領域六層次」理論。學生通過練習，由淺入深，最終達到鍛煉思辨能力的目的。
