本套教材分為4冊（均有光碟），為基礎階段教材，每冊均包括10個單元，共40個單元，每個單元建議用4?6學時（每學時按N45分鐘計）。教材使用對象為英語專業一年級和二年級學生，也適合有一定英語聽力水平和口語表達能力的英語學習者和非英語專業學生。
本書為第一冊。現將每單元的框架介紹如下：
主題導：以主題為切入點，選取與主題密切相關的名家名句進行整句聽寫，選取與主題密切相關的篇章進行與英語專業八級類似的聽力筆記填空練習，並設計相關的口語活動。
影視片段學習：該部分含2個視頻，每個大概6?7分鐘，紀錄片時長為3分鐘左右。每個視頻設計包括200個單詞左右的影片梗概、視頻欣賞、註解、練習任務、對白模仿以及辭彙解釋。
互動練習：該部分包括3個精心設計的互動活動，涵蓋聽說讀寫譯5個方面，重點為聽說活動。
文化沙龍：該部分包括5個以音頻或視頻材料為基礎的練習，強調文化性，能很好地彌補前面影片視頻語料不夠豐富的缺陷。
補充閱讀：該部分為一篇1000個單詞以上的閱讀材料，選取與主題相關的原汁原味材料，供學生課後閱讀思考。
自主學習：該部分提供影片、歌曲、電視劇等視聽材料供學生課後欣賞。
附錄：本套教材學生用書附錄包括Understanding Movie Clips中的所有影片片段對白。
