本教材按照教育部新的職業教育教學改革精神，結合第1版教材的使用反饋意見以及全國職業院校技能大賽要點進行修訂，採用情境化、模塊化教學方式，按照行業企業生產崗位需求設計系統化的實訓內容，將新技術、新工藝、新規範以及職業技能等級證書內容融入到教學過程中。 本教材內容選自英美專業教材與專業技術刊物中的原文，為保持原味，只作刪減，不作修改。按照機械類專業教學要求，內容設為4個模塊：Advanced Manufacturing Foundation and Cases，Advanced Manufacturing Process and Cases，Advanced Manufacturing Design and Cases，Advanced Manufacturing Equipment and Cases。通過典型生產案例突出介紹智能製造技術。針對各學習模塊提供大量的機械職場口語和筆試練習，不同院校可根據實際情況對該內容作適當的調整。 本教材為高等職業本專科院校機械大類專業英語教材，也可作為開放大學、成人教育、自學考試、中職學校、培訓班的教材，以及企業工程技術人員的參考書。 本教材配有免費的電子教學課件和練習題參考答案，詳見前言。
