本書是為大學英語專業四年級學生編寫的，也可供高校非英語專業的英語愛好者學習和參考。這本教材的重點是英語學術寫作的介紹和訓練，通過循序漸進的講解和寫作練習，使學生了解、熟悉、掌握英語學術寫作的特點，為撰寫畢業論文和以後進行學術寫作奠定堅實的基礎。
本書共分為四個部分：（1）英語學術寫作簡介；（2）學術論文的寫作；（3）研究報告的寫作；（4）英語專業畢業論文的寫作。每部分由五個單元組成。本書的基本框架是第一部分介紹英語學術寫作與學術研究的關係，學術寫作的基本特徵和要求。第二部分介紹以圖書資料為基礎的學術論文的寫作要素，以及寫好既言之有物，又符合學術規範的研究性學期論文的方法和步驟。第三部分介紹以實證研究為基礎的研究報告的寫作，為今後從事英語教學，培養定性和定量研究打下良好基礎。第四部分介紹英語專業學士學位論文的寫作，從英語語言學、英語文學、翻譯和教學法等方面，給以翔實的例證和分析，以期對英語專業學生做好畢業論文提供參考。本書用簡潔的語言對英語學術寫作的各個環節和要求作了詳細介紹，並盡量多地提供典型例文給學生作參考，同時設計了豐富多樣的練習。
