蘇州博物館西館是蘇州博物館設立的分館，將於2021年9月下旬建成開放。為配合蘇州博物館西館開館，蘇州博物館擬出版2本圖錄（通史陳列、蘇作工藝陳列）。本書為蘇州博物館西館蘇作工藝陳列圖錄，收入展品均為蘇州博物館館藏蘇作工藝精品，共一百多件，時代以明、清及近現代為主，少量涉及宋元時期，工藝門類豐富多樣，包括玉雕、木雕、核雕、硯雕、磚雕、牙角雕、竹刻、泥塑、緙絲、蘇?、摺扇、團扇、檀香扇、鳥籠及銅器、金銀器、傢具等，極為精緻巧妙，是蘇作工藝最高水平的代表。作者不簡單以質地將這些手工藝作品分類，而是按照蘇州傳統文人賞玩日用的用途，將這些器物分為雕玲瓏、琢綺麗、?華彩三大部分，體現了作者的別出心裁，也使整本圖錄更具蘇州文化氣息，凸顯了其地域特色。
