本書是依據2018年6月實施的《中國英語能力等級量表》(下面簡稱量表)的要求編寫而成的。在編寫本書的過程中，編者認真學習了量表，量表中將聽力理解能力分為「基礎、發展、熟練」三個階段，每個階段包含三個等級，即「三段九級」，其中五、六級對應大學英語。依據量表要求，編者力求編寫出能夠幫助大學英語學習者有效提升聽力理解能力的聽力材料。 本書每單元都由Warming-up Activity、Conversations、Passages、Compound Dictation、Story Appreciation及Key to the Exercises (Listening by Code)組成，形式活潑多樣，而且與全國大學英語水平測試第四級的形式相吻合，內容涉及日常生活和社交活動的各個方面，不僅有助於提高學生的聽力技能，也有益於提高學生的英語交際能力。本書音頻採用「碼上學」的高科技手段，學習者使用智能手機掃碼即可獲得本書的音頻(語音)、書面語料、答案等，進行有效的自主學習。 本書適合作為我國高等院校非英語專業一、二年級學生的大學英語聽力教材。
