這是一本具有系統性、權威性、先進性和適用性的英文教材，供國內醫學院校學生雙語學習使用。本著繼承國內藥理學教學傳統，同時吸收國外經驗的宗旨，本書章節是在沿用國內藥理學同類教科書基礎上，參照國外藥理學教科書而編寫的。
本教材涉及的章節包括：總論，作用於自主神經系統的藥物，作用於中樞神經系統的藥物，作用於心血管和腎髒的藥物，作用於平滑肌的藥物，作用於內分泌系統的藥物，自泌素和抗自泌素藥物，治療血液系統疾病、炎症和痛風的藥物，作用於免疫系統的藥物，化學治療藥物，毒理學以及專題。在編寫中特別注意到內容新穎、材料精選、深入淺出，每章著重介紹具有代表性的典型藥物，而不是一味地對個別藥物做累贅敘述。
