Susan Stempleski、楊惠中等編著的《視聽說教程（附光碟1教師手冊第2版）》每個單元由Lesson A（Listening&Speaking）和Lesson B（Video Course）構成。
Lesson A從第一節到第四節，詳細設計了語言點的引入、交際功能表達法的介紹、題材的介紹等等。第一節Vocabulary Link是介紹與本節題材與交際功能有關的辭彙和短語，第二節Listening是結合情景與交際功能進行聽力練習，第三節Pronunciation為語音訓練提供基本知識和示範，第四節Speaking&Communication結合情景與交際功能進行聽和說的綜合練習，將這些材料有機結合，在課堂里進行操練和仿說練習，幫助學生有效提高聽和說的能力。教材每單元內容比較充裕，如果按計劃進行聽和說的操練，一般學校能夠在課堂時間內完成教材內容。但有些學校如果因為班級太大，在課堂內組織口語練習確有困難，可以根據實際情況對內容進行選擇，把課內時間集中在聽力練習上，重點發展學生的英語聽解能力。對於班級里英語程度比較好的有條件的學生，可鼓勵他們在課外通過網路課件進一步進行聽、說操練，全面提高英語聽、說能力。
另外，第三版對Lesson B也做了相應的調整和補充，目的是幫助學生在理解的基礎上切實提高英語口語能力。第一部分Global Viewpoints是採訪不同的人就同一題材發表觀點，受訪者來自世界各地，英語地道、規範，語速正常，還可能帶有一點當地口音，這些正是現實生活中可能遇到的情況。為了幫助學生充分理解說話內容，教材設計了相應的練習提高聽解能力，同時也增加一些產出練習。第二部分City Living是情景喜劇短片，有人物，有情節，有故事。但是僅僅看懂故事梗概並不是語言課的目的。英語課的目的是幫助學生掌握其中的語言，尤其是要學習其中的EverydayEnglish，表達交際功能的語言手段，以及掌握談論某個題材所需的詞語，這些英語口語中最常用的預構成語塊是會話策略的重要語言手段，學生要結合短片中的情景、人物表情和肢體語言，充分理解、熟練掌握。為此，教材設計了各種有效的練習，幫助學生掌握地道的英語，加強語感，同時提高學習語言的興趣。
