刑法是規定犯罪、刑事責任和刑罰的法律規範體系。本書主要講述了中國刑法的基本原理,立足罪責刑關係這一具有中國特色的理論框架,從「四要件」犯罪成立體系、刑事責任產生與實現、刑罰種類與執行等角度,闡釋犯罪認定、刑事責任追究、刑罰適用的基本原理,推動發現犯罪認定的新問題,提出深化罪責刑關係的新觀點,構建刑事責任實現的新理論,形成具有中國風格、中國氣派的定罪原理、犯罪認定方法、刑事責任理論體系、刑罰執行規則。
