曾在日本一橋大學從事第一線科研與教學工作十多年，歷任助理教授、研究員和准教授。
分別在《經濟研究》(中國)、《經濟研究》(日本)、《國際經濟評論》(中國)，以及Review of Income and Wealth，Explorations in Economic History等學術刊物上發表論文數十篇。此外，關於中國經濟發展的學術專著《中國的經濟發展與資源配置1860—2004》由東京大學出版會出版，被日本學界評價為研究中國長期經濟發展時必須參考的重要文獻，從而榮獲2010年度日本第五屆櫻山純三獎。
